didnt believe i had made a proper reservation through the airport. showed them a negative covid test and travel qr. where Lance my front desk attendant then went and spoke with his manager for a long time.

Buyer beware hotel is really old, rooms are outdated and paint is peeling. Staff was decent but really didn’t help with things to do. The hotel restaurant is closed due to Covid-19 The pool also has weird “COVID” hours it closes at 3 which is the hottest point of the day.

The palm trees fit the look of the hotel. But the inside could be better. I would maybe recommend staying here again but based on other reviews it would be less likely. And one more thing. I saw blood stains behind the hotel. What's going on back there??

Dated basic hotel in need of a facelift. Expensive as well for a moderate room, everything is relatively close in Waikiki so location was ok. Staff were very helpful with all my requests. It was booked through a travel agent and was staying solo so I also had to pay a single supplement which made the price expensive considering the facilities. Breakfast was included i tried it one didn't bother the other three mornings you can read into that.
Great location

We enjoyed our 3 night stay. The breakfast that was included was enjoyable. I actually enjoyed eating noodles for breakfast 🙂The pancakes were very good as well. Parking is expensive but we found free parking on the street by the canal . The hotel is close to the beach, the international market and many restaurants. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We didn’t use the pool, it is very small.
We booked this hotel super last minute after our Airbnb we booked was not what we expected and we couldn't bare to spend another night there! We found Aqua Oasis online at Last Minute travel - we booked a junior suite and we ended up getting an even better room than we thought thanks to Olivia at the front desk! We had such a wonderful time. The room was spacious, the bed was super comfortable, the balcony was large and covered, the AC worked great and the continental breakfast was great! You don't get too much of a view other than the buildings, but we didn't care! It was in a nice part of Honolulu and you could walk to the beach or around the stores easily. They had lots of signs regarding social distancing (even in the elevators) and hand sanitizer stations all around. Super clean hotel. No complaints and we would definitely stay there again! Thanks again Olivia! After having a not so great experience the first few days in Honolulu, you helped save the last few days of our Honeymoon :)
STILL COMING BACK WITH JOY
Brox808
Still one of those good destinations for a boutique hotel away from the hustle & bustle of Waikiki. A few renovations since it was called the "Joy Hotel" back in the day, but to get it back to the state-of-the-art status again, will need some work. Valet parking fills-up quickly, but there is an around the corner parking option that is cheaper. Lewers street, headed towards the beach-side of waikiki, has many businesses and eateries in walking distance. Covid-19 protocols are in place... so be aware, stay safe, and wear your F'n masks & respect the island, the culture, the people, and each other! Mahalo!

great family budget hotel

The reason why we chose this hotel was the full kitchen which is hard to come by in Waikiki. It did not disappoint, though the framing around the kitchen window was old/stained. The furniture in the room was also more dated than the pictures suggested, but I think this is hotel is perfect for a family looking for a great budget hotel in walking distance to the beach. Get a room on higher levels (7th or 8th floor), facing the beach and away from the elevator - our room was next to the elevator and we did hear the elevator's motor going day and night. Our large patio with nice view towards the beach was a nice surprise. All of the hotel staff is extremely friendly, check in and check out went really smooth and all of our requests were attended to quickly. Would stay again!
Exactly what we needed!

Our stay at Aqua Oasis was exactly what we needed. It is so close to all of the great food, shopping places, and the beach! The staff were all so incredibly friendly and hospitable, we definitely felt taken care of. Thanks again!
One thing to be aware of, however, is parking fees. There is an expensive fee to park your car at the hotel. There is a less expensive lot across the street that only takes cash ($25/night).
James was a friendly, outgoing, funny, and charming employee that assisted us with our day trips to the east-side if the island. It was a pleasure working with him and was on point when it came to recommendations. Despite lots of areas being closed, James listened and went to work on finding what we needed. If you stay here or near by, please come visit James at the concierge service desk. He knows his business. Thanks James!!

booked the partial ocean view which they said it was with pull out couch bed but they arrive they decided to upgrade us to the penthouse which I was excited however when we got to the room it wasn't much of an ungrade than I thought. Only on the bathroom was the upgrade since two since but no extra room and no pull out couch. smaller than I thought it would be. looked bigger in the pictures even in the penthouse suite. coffee pot was dirty so we requested for a new one. took us 30 mins to get a new one and I had to call twice since maybe they forgot. no numbers were provided to us to call for any service. not even a TV guide. the remote had no cover they used a tape just to cover it, clear tape may I add and can see the batteries. hardboard right? felt the dust in the air. elevator wasn't good the third one wasn't even cleared and kind of dirty. as I booked this they said it would be great and just went under new renovations but major disappointed the condition of the hotel. hotel bed was very comfortable thou. the bathroom door maybe had a whole or scratch but they just put paint over it which you can definitely tell but they didn't even try to match the paint with the same color just another color it. hallway was dirty when we went in our room. the location was great and parking was what I expected from Waikiki. Just expected it more to be better to be honest. Out of all the hotelsI ever stayed at to be honest this was the worse sad to say.

lovely stylish hotel. have been coming here since 2012. The exercise room needs an update. Everything, other than that is fine. friendly staff and within walking distance to the shopping center, hilton hawaiian village and many restaurants. great stay.
You pay too much for what you get...

The hotel is being remodelled, we got a good room, however the bathroom smelled like rotten eggs. The elevator was really slow, we took the stairs most of the time (10th floor). The hotel is at a very good location, near Waikiki and there are many restaurants and shops around. Staff is kind and helpful. We felt scammed with our bill because it didn't match the price stated in our booking... They charge you one extra night, but don't worry it's just 160 dollars! We were not told we had to pay to use the parking either. However, we did know we had to pay a daily ammenity fee, I still wonder what ammenities we paid for... I hope it wasn't for the use of the swimming pool which was really small and we didn't use. We had other options to stay at and if we had known all these aspects we wouldn't have chosen Aqua Palms.

I had a non-refundable booking with this hotel for April 2020 and unfortunately will not get to stay due to the quarantine.
I just want to give them high praise for relaxing that policy to allow a cancellation with no penalty and no hassle. Considering the financial hit they are about to take, they could have adhered to their policy or simply provided a future travel credit.
When I am able to visit, I will definitely book with them again. If they are this accommodating towards someone canceling, imagine how they must treat their guests.
Within the year we stayed there 5 times. Front desk Jaime is Mr. Aloha always cheerful and caring know his job well. Management his a keeper. Island colony is a great hotel outdated but great recreation. We will keep coming back.

The clerk at front desk that worked at night was good and attentive but our overall experience was terrible. Our hotel room kitchen was dirty before we even got settled in. The room had roaches in the kitchen bathroom and room . There were termites in the cabinets and door. Ask housekeeping to come clean up the shavings and they did a terrible Job and didn’t even clean up the mess just basically swept it on the kitchen floor. Termite shavings reappeared after being cleaned up . Housekeeping is not very attentive and doesn’t bring anything to room . Rooms need to be sprayed for roaches and termites . Rooms need to be clean thoroughly and check being guest come.
I can not say enough good things about our stay. They have 2 pools but only 1 was open due to Covid. When we arrived it was only open from 11-6:30 but shortly after it went to 9-9. the staff were incredible at making sure lounge chairs were sanitized between each person using them. they were right on it. In fact they have to be the hardest working resort staff I have ever seen. they work together like a great team. to get the pool area ready everyday. WiFi covers the entire grounds. I worked out everyday by the seawall. my kids did there school work in our room. We rented directly from the owner. The unit was incredible. If you needed something they had it. Spent a lot of time sitting on the Lanai watching the view. speaking of the view. multiple times we were fortunate enough to see a pod of dolphins going by. Jumping and frolicking about. a couple turtle as well. All in all. this is a great place to stay.

We had the most amazing time at Papakea! After reading a couple of the other negative reviews, I admit I was worried, but I rented directly from an owner rather than thru a third party, and I was not disappointed. The unit was really pretty - nicely updated, fully equipped, and with beautiful views just 50 feet from the water. I spent soooo many hours just sitting on the lanai watching the waves, and enjoyed an ocean lullaby that sang me to sleep every night. The first few days I was there, Hawaii was still requiring people wear masks outside even when they could socially distance, but once the state changed its policy, the resort did too. I completely understand why they had to follow the rules set by the state - but I was really happy once those rules were changed to make more sense! (I have to disagree with Culture 12330543661, who apparently hadn't read the Governor's proclamation that spelled out the state requirements about masking - up until mid-November, the rules were REALLY specific about masks being required in all condominium complex common areas, except when people were swimming or exercising strenuously. No exception for being distanced. Papakea was clearly following the state rules, and if she experienced something different, then I guess the other resorts weren't concerned about breaking the law.) I have to say that all the staff were really pleasant and helpful. I didn't use the pool, so I can't comment on what that experience was like; I do know that when I was there, the south pool was open 9:00 to 9:00 (the north pool was still closed, I guess because of the lack of guests?), but had just expanded the hours. My host was careful to be sure I understood all the rules and requirements when I booked - I really appreciated the care taken so that there were no surprises. I am sad that Culture's host or vacation rental company didn't take the care our host did! Anyway, my experience was so wonderful, I can't wait to go back.
Not exactly a vacation + false advertising. Felt like a prison with a lovely view.

(Portland, Oregon)
We came from Oregon & rented a 4th-floor room. First of all, the website said the pool was open 9:00 - 10:00, in actuality, it was only open 11:30 - 6:30 which is the worst UV hours of the day and there is no shade. Also, they advertise two pools, which is false, only one is open. When asked why this change they claimed due to COVID, which is ridiculous because it just condenses the daily use instead of spreading it out over the hours and two pools, so more people during the limited hours and space. We walked down to several neighboring hotels and EVERY SINGLE one except Papakea had a full day at the pool open.
They also don't follow Hawaii State or Aston policies about COVID in the first place, but after visiting neighboring hotels, all the surrounding hotels DO. Papakea wants you wearing a mask on the outside grounds even if you are alone. An employee told a mother of a toddler to put a mask on the child. First of all, toddlers/babies shouldn't wear a mask, second, she was thirty feet away from any human! Plus she was walking ALONE, with her toddler. Papakea's policies are illogical & not even state or hotel guidelines, they are their own illogical, draconian, unscientific virtue-signaling that makes the place feel like a prison with a pretty view. The worst part is we were not informed of the prison cell policies until we got there. Oregon is a little far to turn around & go home. Also, there was a water fountain below us that was incredibly noisy. You'd think they'd turn it off during quiet hours, but no, it's on all night. When I asked an employee if they could please turn it off at night so we could sleep, they told me NO because of COVID. What? COVID is their excuse for everything that is miserable here, there is no way turning off a loud fountain at night is a COVID risk.
While our family was visiting other hotels along the same strip we saw people laughing, having fun, using the pool late at night, and felt so jealous. We made a hard choice and changed our flight to stay on 3 more days at another hotel so we could at least have a bit of a vacation. We stayed at Ka'anapali Beach Club, which was a very positive experience! They followed COVID rules, but the ones that can actually keep you safe, plus they had hand sanitizer everywhere, which is great! They were so friendly and people walking the grounds alone were not harassed for not having their mask up. Kids & babies were not harassed. Everyone was great about social distancing and super friendly. The pool was open and even its slide was open and running the full hours, which were even longer hours than the falsely advertised hours at the Papakea even if they had opened like the advertised! Plus, at the new hotel the only sound we heard at night was laughter and the ocean instead of a loud water machine.
The bottom line for us was our vacation at the Papakea felt very stressful, more like we survived it than enjoyed it, our second experience was beautiful and relaxing with the added benefit of feeling truly safer from COVID since the second hotel followed actual scientific rules and encouraged sanitation, social distancing instead of worthless authoritarian "virtue-signaling" which can not keep anyone safe from a virus. Glad we tagged on the extra three days so not a total waste of money, flight and vacation days
Do Not Book Through Costco
GingercookieS88
This Lahaina resort was lovely as the grounds were well kept and the pool was clean with many attractive areas for outdoor dinners, avail bbqs, evening strolls and the like. There is no restaurant and no beach but you can pull up your lounger on the spongy soft grass (if you are taking a break from sight-seeing!) and enjoy the *incredible* ocean view. There is much whale activity in February as it's mating season.
This Aston at Papakea is next to the ever popular "food truck" extravaganza. It also connects to the picturesque Boardwalk, there is a grocery store, bar, fast food takeout, souvenir store in the mini mall and a Slappy Jacks within short walking distance.
Spectacular beaches to the south and ones for snorkelling a short drive to the north (do your research on the safest times!) Minutes away from the amazing Honoapiilani Highway with a few fruit/banana bread stands if you need a break from the breathtaking views! PS do not irritate the locals on this HWY pull over if they're driving faster than you! The front desk staff at the resort is incredibly kind and towel service is swift (not free after 1 set with Costco.)
I will warn you not to book through Costco because they bought 5 of these units and do not maintain them. Many units are privately owned (lucky them!) The carpeting was disgusting, the walls were dirty, you wrestle sliding doors, the sink had a horrendous garbage smell emanating from it and the rusty fridge needed replacing. A little goes a long way had Costco just invested a little of their annual 21 billion income. Why not make guests feel they're sleeping in clean quarters? We were taken to another unit that was less desirable than the first. Thankfully being in Hawaii we were not room-fixated but for the upgrade COST for an oceanfront room I would have expected much better. 1 clean service 1 towel service for 2 weeks. Like I say, I'm sure the Resort has better care with direct customer reservations but Costco fails *for what they charge you.* Don't waste your money on Costco. Book your own accommodations.

Dear Management
Upon checking into the room we were told that they gave us a different room then requested. When we entered the room we found a dirty room with writing on the walls , air conditioner wasn’t working, broken fans , moldy shower floor, bedroom had no air and closet had dirty things inside. This room was in much need of cleaning and repairing. We could not stay in there due to these conditions. I contacted your office and told the person in there about these problems and they said they couldn’t do anything. I asked to speak to a manger and they said nobody was there. I told them I was checking out and they should refund my money due to not giving me a livable place to stay. They said they could not do that . I told them that I was checking out please refund my money. I then went to the front desk where they checked me out and refunded me their fee. They also never called me back or refunded my money.
We actually visited in September of 2019. The hospitality was superb. Beautiful views. The manager Ronald has collected native artifacts and gives a “free of charge” history talk about the artifacts and the culture of Hawaii. History lovers will love learning about the local culture!
TERRIBLE!!
Nonya123456
Stayed in 511, dirty, outdated, and smelly. Upon arrival, kitchen counters were dirty, appliances sticky, hair all over bathroom as if not even swept, much less cleaned. Wondering if the “cleaning fee “ is simply an extra a pocketed fee. The font clerk was less than welcoming, and I was Charged another $290 at check in after “pre-paying”.... the total ended up being more expensive than our previous 4 nights at Aulani on Oahu (beautiful, clean beach front resort with amazing beach, wonderful service, and did I say clean??). Everything was outdated & dirty; not to mention the nasty sheets. I was itching to get home literally - as this was the last leg of our trip. Not the ending relaxation I had in mind. Eek!!

We stayed at the Aston Poipu Kai and had a few challenges, rental car hit in parking lot and other things, the first 3 days of our 11 day vacation. My wife was ready to buy a ticket home. We told Takara Carreira about the issues we were having and she took care of everything. It was amazing. She made our vacation! The extra effort that she put in for us made this an amazing worry free trip. We will return because of the customer service we received and the accommodations. Thank you Takara!
Nice enough, but could use some updates
Janell L
My husband and I stayed Jan 9-16 2020. Overall, the place was nice, but could use a few updates. First of all, we were in room 112. We were promised an ocean view, but no such luck, couldnt even hear it. We were right by the pool and hot tub, but really wanted the ocean. The one thing inside our room that needs some help was the bath tub. It was disgusting! The water was almost knee high after being in the shower for about 3 minutes. Plus, it was dirty looking, for sure not something you would want to take a bath in, or put an infant in to bathe!! The other parts of the place were nice, clean and had everything you would need. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need, very good condition, including dishes, pots/pans, utensils, coffee pot, toaster, microwave ect. Fridge does not have an ice maker, but that didnt bother us. The other extremely frustrating thing was the hot tub. We had a few days of cooler weather so thought we would enjoy the hot tub. When we stuck our toes in, it was freezing cold!! Then we see a sign that said "we are not getting a new propane tank until the person who stole ours returns it." Now anyone with any common sense knows that thief has no intent of returning the propane tank so just get a new one! I felt it totally ridiculous that we as guests, had to pay the price of a freezing "hot" tub! So we couldn't see/hear the ocean, we could not use the hot tub, was soooooo not impressed with that!! It was located 1/2 block away from a fun restaurant/bar called Joe's something? They had super food and great service! We went there for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the time we were there. All the other places we ate at during our stay were fantastic as well! Food at the grocery store was super expensive, other than seafood. Shopped at Safeway to get some basics for our condo. The best part was the seafood! King crab, cooked and cleaned, was only $7 per pound! The size of the meat was equivalent to the size of a piece of string cheese! It was melt in your mouth excellent!! Shopping was great! After we bought a few things from local stores/shops, we had to make a Wal-mart run for a few forgotton items. We found the exact same things we had just bought, but for half the price, even the same company! They have a little tourist section that has all kinds of wooden bowls/plates/trays, lotions, soaps, chap stick, bags, jams and lots more. Flights were perfect, (Delta) long way from Wisconsin! Had a great time, and would recommend, but make sure to ask lots of questions about the rooms. Also, keep in mind, there is no daily maid service, but the washer and dryer were great! There was a small patio that we used daily, since we were on the first floor, our patio was covered by the second floor one. Our bedroom did have an AC unit that we did use a few times, but not every day. ALOHA!!

Condo was clean and comfortable; only real problem is that there is no A/C for any area except bedroom; there are times when my wife and I wanted to just relax with the TV in living area, but could not because by 5PM the room is too hot. 2. pool is not heated, we went for a swim at 8M and could not get in as it was cold.
DO NOT RESERVE A STAY UNTIL AFTER COVID ZERO CANCELLATION POLICY!
TiffnEd756
(Kinnelon, New Jersey)
We stayed there about 4 years ago because it was close to the airport after inter island flights and it was fine. I was raised on the Big Island and come home every year. This time I booked again for the same reason, coming in from Kauai and leaving the next day for the mainland and had no early flights to Oahu. I booked through Expedia because we needed a car also. We ordered 6 Covid tests, arranged testing before we leave and flying direct flight front row of first class to keep as safe as possible. Well, They announced yesterday that Kauai was back on shut down. I just cancelled our entire 8 day trip, too many shut downs, of which I totally understand, I don't want to bring it to my beautiful home.
They would not refund the nights stay, I understand hotel policy, however, I would expect some type of exceptions be made under these circumstances. Every other hotel, air, excursions, rental vehicles were able to be cancelled except this one hotel. Absolutely ridiculous especially given the need for tourism dollars in Hawaii. Sad.
Great Location for Downtown
TweedleDeee
(Huntsville, Alabama)
If you are working in the downtown area it is greatly located. The lobby area is nice along with nice views from the upper floors. There is also a good number of shopping and eating options in the area, and even within a very easy walk to McD's and Walmart.
Parking is available but is a bit of a pain to access as you have to change elevators to access floors 3-9 which is the parking areas. It is also can get quite costly at about $20 a day.
Now the bad, the Apt we stayed in was decently clean, had a decent bed, but the rest of the furniture and accommodations were cheap. Even the kitchen utensils, silverware, and cookware were pathetic. Since I have now found out these are condo units and owned by individuals, I guess it makes sense that some are better than others. This room wasn't terrible but it could definitely use some upgrades.
This is downtown, so after about 6 pm all the business people are gone and all that is left is the homeless and they are EVERYWHERE. Not the fault of the hotel but Oahu has a serious homeless problem and it shows, in this area, at night.

mosesf2015
I checked in on Friday 6 March around 2pm. My room wasn't ready but front desk found 3608 available so I assigned this one. When I walked in it smelled like cigarettes had been smoked in it but more importantly, I was amazed at the size of this room. I was greeted with a fully kitted out kitchen (except an oven) that could fit three people easily. After this was a huge lounge, great carpet, leather lounge suite, decent size HD 40" or more TV with cable, and seating for at least five people. Probably more given the space it commanded. A slide door separates it from the master bedroom (that's how I would describe it), including another TV screen, office desk and this room was also huge. It also has a washer and dryer and ample wardrobe space. I think the ensuite needs an upgrade especially the bathtub, the tv in the master room doesn't work, and the internet too.
I called front desk and spoke with Niz. We both tried trouble shooting looking at the equipment but that wasn't the problem. Niz called the internet provider and they couldn't find what the problem was. I couldn't log in to internet and I had two university guest lectures to give in: 12-3pm and 6-8pm. It wasn't until 1am in the morning when Niz rescued me and put me in 3805 so I can get an internet connection. Wow! This room was awesome. It was certainly an upgrade. It was immaculate and a step up from 3608.
Niz has been at the Aston for a decade or more and an able supervisor. She went all out to make sure my stay was comfortable so I would like to commend Niz.
Couple vacation

Very very dissapointed with the hotel, it is not as advertised! The room smelled and the furniture was outdated and old. Turns out it is a Time-share room which I was not informed of at any stage, thus the lived in smell!! We were moved the following day to another room, better view but still SMELLED! Bed(s) were old and uncormfortable. All in all, a very poor start to our vacation. The restaurnat in the lobby doesnt even belong to the hotel either. Overall, not as advertised, expensive for what is on offer, and no contact with management either during or subsequent to the fiasco. The front staff were very nice and tied to help in a situation that obvioulsy they have no control over.
Location is everything

We need to stay in Chinatown for business. This was a very good option as it was centrally located and the price was right and we knew people who had stayed here and the reviews were pretty good. Edit appears to be a bunch of condos or such that are rented out nightly as hotel rooms. So I think that the furnishings might be a little different. The rooms are outside and in some respects but our room on the 31st floor facing east toward the mountains was very very spacious with a mini kitchen dining table and chairs and a desk and a large fridge The bathroom was adequate and the bedroom side was quite large. My only complaint about the bedroom side was no chair or sofa or any place to sit. Service was very good and the best thing about the place is the pool the pool is a little oasis in the concrete jungle on the 11th floor and just perfect
Love this place. Guys, you should know that each condo is privately owned and so if you read a review complaining of a bad bed, dingy carpet, etc, then maybe you got an older unit. We stayed at Q109 and. It was gorgeous, just recently remodeled with wonderful beds and super clean. (I downloaded pictures but they were right before we left and the beds are not made, etc)... VRBO has lots of individual listings so you can get exactly the condo you chose online.
Maui Banyan is super conveninent to all the restaurants and beaches, and has lots of parking. We love condos over pricy hotels because it is so much easier to go out and explore.. We loved Maui Banyan (especially Q109)!!

The staff here go out of there way to ensure customers are comfortable and happy. The rooms are clean and have everything you need for a fantastic stay. I‘ve been there for 4 nights. The appartement (507) was very open, well structured and had enough space. The balcony was a little bit too snall for me. The kitchen was very good equipped, so I was able to prepare any kind of food. It was really clean, but you could see, that the appartement has come into it‘s years. One point that really was uncomfortable - was that this building was a no smoking area. I had to walk really far to go to the smoking area. That was really bad!
Nice enough place to stay.

I was shocked to be paying $284 a night, but the Maui Banyan was nice enough. The room had new bathroom and tile. The TV was good as was the air conditioner and the beds were comfortable. We were given a room in a building with an elevator and 2 beds as requested, but it took a change of room before we accepted the room. It was a little too far for us to walk to most restaurants so we mostly drove. Nice room. Would stay again
Excellent place to stay

Loved this place. One bedroom, 2 bathroom condo. Walking distance to anything we needed, great beach across the street. Most beautiful sunsets. The grounds are gorgeous. Parking space included. Got a diving trip arranged right in the office.

I've stayed a few times here and each room is hit or miss. The constant seems to be the very hard beds in the rooms. I deal with it as when I'm traveling for work I like to have a kitchen so that I can cook for the longer stays that I'm there, however I think I may be looking for different places in the future. I would be willing to spend a little extra for a more comfortable mattress. The rooms could really use a remodel as most of them haven't been updated in a very long time.

use door dash and instacart for food and groceries. Safeway's direct service does not work. whole foods version does seem to work though.
the trash chute is at the end of the corridor, and so is laundry. no detergent, but the machines can be run with an app - no quarters needed.

They are advertising staycations, but the pool is closed due to the Coronavirus , how dumb are they, chlorine is the only thing that will kill the virus. They should make everyone go in the pool
I think we are going to far as to cancel everything, yes you have to take precaution, wash you hands and don’t touch your face, but to close down the one place where there is no virus is just plain stupid
Can’t wait to come back. Location and beach can’t be beat.

First trip to Maui and We think we found the best beach on Maui and possibly in the US. We’ve been to NC, CA, AL, FL, and MA and Kaanapali beach beats them all. Our 10th floor studio suite was perfect. The free use of washer and dryer was a great perk for sweaty clothes after hikes or runs. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
Excellent stay! Would absolutely stay again.

I would rate the hotel at a 95%. The rooms were great. Property was beautiful. The scenery between the 2 towers of the mountain was breathtaking. The staff was friendly.
My only 2 complaints were 1) I called to ask about beach chairs and the information provided was not helpful. I was told first come first serve (which was true), but they made it sound as if there were not a lot of chairs. Not one of the 7 days we were there were the beach chairs fully occupied. We did not need to purchase the chairs we did. Better information/communication on that would have been nice. 2) our safe locked up (batteries died) with all of our valuables in it. We were not leaving so it was not urgent, but we didn’t have a maintenance person out for almost 12 hours. Perhaps there was someone on call if it was urgent, but it was a bit concerning that if we were on our way out, that no one was available to help.
Neither of these things would stop us from staying there again. Just sharing the information as sometimes people do expect perfection and it’s better to be aware there may be hiccups.

We love Aston at The Whaler. It’s a beautiful property with well-maintained grounds. The landscaping and views are photo-worthy at every angle. Check-in was a breeze with the friendly staff that took the time to answer our questions. We stayed on a ground level 1br 2ba suite that was spacious with comfortable furnishings. The one exception to our otherwise perfect stay was the dated bathrooms in the suite. The sink faucet was loose, the wood trim and marble counters were damaged/cracked, and the toilet would keep running after flushing if we didn’t finesse the handle a specific way. 1st world problems, I know! :)
Still, love this resort. The intimate size and its location to the beach, the shopping/dining, and snorkeling at Black Rock make it perfect for us.

Asked for a room in the lower levels but was told they had nothing available. And the power going out but other than that everything else was excellent. Loved the complimentary washer/dryer and also the trash chute was so convenient for us. Thankfully even though the power went out the elevators were still working because we were all the way on the 12th floor. Thank you for taking good care of us!

Our fifth stay , and we will be back! Offers some of the best views in Maui and falling asleep to the sound of waves can’t be beat. The staff is great and always greet you with a welcome home. Some of the best beach in Maui right out your door.
Great accommodations with easy access to the beach, perfectly located within walking distance to shops and restaurants.Central location for trips to north and south shores. Pricing and amenities were great, will come again !

Kauai Re-Opening Experience Lovely

We decided to take a trip for a birthday and chose the Islander on the Beach for the Aston name reputation and the location. Since the property had very low occupancy due to 3 days after Kauai re-opened (Covid19) amenities were closed ie...bar, shops etc. That was to be expected but Lori was so kind!! She greeted us at check in, provided information , a birthday welcome gift, some coffee vouchers and her phone number so that if we had questions or needed anything we could reach her. We did have a few questions and Lori was super quick to respond! Thank you Lori!!! Not having the resort full and the pool to yourself will spoil you :) The room is decorated Tiki terrific, clean and has everything we needed. We had an Oean Front room and it is wonderful to wake up to the sound of the crashing waves. The size of the resort is small/medium and perfect for our taste. The grounds are manicured and lovely. The location is central and could not be better for everything we wanted to do. Many great restaurants close by and the best of all is the Coconut Marketplace is walking distance. The Marketplace has the best ABC store with food & snacks to keep in your frig in room. Also a deli and hot food meals if you prefer. Since many shops around Kauai in the towns are still closed the ABC store saved us on our shopping. The marketplace has great shop choices and other eateries we took advantage of and most were open. This is a special resort and what I prefer over the huge ones that seem to lose their personalized touch. I highly recommend The Aston Islander on the Beach and look for Lori, she is the kindest person you can meet.

We stayed here for two nights and our experience was great despite the whole covid thing. Hotel occupancy was very minimal and so we got to experience this place as if we were the only people here. The tourists aren't back yet so BOOK here before it ends! The staff are very helpful and pleasant, so remember to tip good! Also remember to be respectful during your stay. Thank you.

My girl and I wanted to get off Oahu for the weekend and shoot over to Kauai for some fun. Was looking at a bunch of hotels and landed on this gem oceanfront and in a very convenient location. The rooms had a vintage feel and were cozy and the property was gorgeous. Definitely a great price for locals who want to go outer island or for visitors coming to Hawaii. We will definitely be staying here again.
I am absolutely APPALLED at the awful “customer service” we received here. I have traveled extensively throughout my lifetime and I have never once experienced such horrible customer service or anything even remotely close to as horrible as this. I would never stay here again or recommend anybody else to stay here. We are checking out early and staying somewhere else for the remainder of our trip because of this. If I could give zero stars I would. The front desk receptionist was so unbelievably rude and had such a horrible attitude that I couldn’t even believe it. I’m shocked that anybody would treat praying customers this way. I have NEVER been treated so horribly as a paying customer. We called the front t desk and wasn’t able to answer our questions and made no effort to do so. We tried calling back again for help and she was even more rude and unhelpful. She then CALLED US BACK and raised her voice at us on the phone and said if we kept calling the front desk then they would refuse to give us any information (they didn’t give us any helpful information to begin with) and then she HUNG UP THE PHONE ON US without even giving us a chance to speak. All we wanted to know was if there was an ice machine in the hotel or anywhere we could find cold water. She told us our only option was to order delivery. We later found some ice trays in our room and this all could have been avoided had she just told us to look for ice trays in one kitchen or simply told us in a polite manner that she wasn’t sure about the ice situation. Her attitude and rudeness were completely unwarranted. She made no effort to help answer our questions at any point. And the fact that she called us just to yell at us and then hang up was truly the cherry on top. I have never experienced anything like this in my life as a paying customer at a hotel.

We stayed here due to the price and it met our needs. Room truthfully had more than we needed in terms of amenities (full fridge, oven, range, microwave, dishwasher, laundry!) and although all the appliances were older and we really didn't spend enough time in the room to use them much, it's still cool that they were there. Along the same lines, this was the first hotel we stayed at that offered free DVD rentals (played on a PS3 which was less than intuitive but still a nice thought). The hotel in general needs a lot of updating in terms of finishes and appliances. There were 2 nice pool areas that again we didn't really use and the hotel is right on the beach(!) which was beautiful. It is walking distance or even easier driving distance to great snorkeling by the black rock formation. The coffee shop was closed due to COVID and restaurant was decent for breakfast (we didn't go for any other meals). They do not clean your room during your stay (not sure if this is a change due to COVID) but do offer fresh towels etc on request. If you want fancy/trendy/modern, this isn't it but if you're traveling on a budget and still want to stay in a great area with lots of amenities, try here!

We could not have asked for a better stay on Maui. This property is blessed with the best location on Kaanapali beach, and we got the ocean front aloha suite up on the 8th floor. So we got more like 220 degree ocean views! And got to see them whales playing around right from our bed!
Excellent pools and beach right in front. Best for staying with kids. And very close to Lahaina for shopping and dining as well.

The staff had attitude and you could not swim in the beach. The beach was full of rocks so we drove to a beach whenever the kids wanted to have a beach day. The only positive was they had a nice pool. The also had nice fire pit areas but the minute after 8pm they would come and turn them off. The ocean front 1 bedroom suite was very nice.

We stayed for two weeks and couldn’t have asked for a better property or location. Easy parking and the property was well kept. The orientation of the buildings is to be noted. The building runs almost parallel to the ocean, allowing all units with partial to full ocean views. The pool and sand area were updated with new furniture and we used the barbecues to prepare evening meals.

The tv in our room stopped working three days before we left. The promised they would fix it immediately but they never did. The room is nice and the grounds are well maintained but I don’t think there is an urgency surrounding customer issues. Also we were very neat and clean and getting the room ready for someone else would have taken only 30 mins and yet they refused a late check out of 12. Maybe we should have been slobs to justify their unwillingness to give us one more hour to pack up. Not sure I would be back. I think a vrbo would be better and cheaper for the service we received.

I’d visited the Big Island for a day tour a couple of years ago & was determined to come back & stay & so in 2020, I came back with my parents & sister for 3 nights. My one bedroom ocean front apartment magically turned into a two bedroom ( thank you so much for the amazing upgrade) & my sister stayed with me rather than with my parents, which I think was best for everyone 😂. Unfortunately due to Coronavirus wreaking havoc on global stock markets, I needed to be available for my clients back home in Australia but being able to work on my laptop from a quiet, spacious apartment with spectacular views & sea breeze helped to alleviate some of my disappointment about missing out on family & holiday time. I loved my stay at Aston Kona by the Sea & so did my family

View was great!!!
Floors were dirty.
No onsite dining or store. Nearest is a long walk.
The “beach” is imported sand behind a sea wall, over a lava break. Not swimmable, at all. Pretty to look at, but very dangerous to go in.

Beautiful property right on the ocean. Listening to the waves from the lanai is so relaxing. We especially enjoy grilling down by the ocean every night while the sun sets. The condo was well equipped and everything was very clean, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable.
We have stayed here many times. We rent from a private renter and always stay in the Lanai building, which is where their units are. We have the opportunity to relax on the 8th floor or the ground floor. No matter where you are in each of the buildings, you are literally 50 feet from the ocean in these all ocean facing units. Views are spectacular, amazing sunsets and watching the whales out front and turtles too.
We could not be happier when our time to visit comes twice a year. Alicia with maui beach condos is awesome to work with

Stayed in the one-bedroom premium oceanfront room. The pictures online are accurate, we arrived to dramatic and peaceful floor-to-ceiling ocean views! The room was clean and had everything we needed (stove is electric so it’s not for serious cooking but there are shared propane grills). WiFi worked well but was not secured for our room (416). Noise from other guests was not a problem. After sunrise we often saw whales in the distance from our terrace!
The beach in front is very rocky and not good for swimming, but you can walk to wider beaches to the south, or drive to Black Rock beach which is spacious and sandy, and perfect for snorkeling and swimming. I’m really glad we didn’t stay near Black Rock because it was crowded and chaotic down there. Beaches to the north in Kapolei were beautiful and secluded (a short drive).
Really feel like we got the best of both worlds staying here and I think we will be back!
I recommend renting a car, and getting water shoes for the rocky beaches in this area.
INCREDIBLE CONDO !!! Unit 315!!
reneegH6352QJ
My husband and I stayed in unit 315 with another couple. 1BR/2bath with Murphy pull down queen bed - nice new mattresses on both! This condo was well decorated, very clean and appointed. A fully equipped kitchen made meal prep easy! It also had the most AMAZING views of the ocean in any place I’ve ever vacationed before! The ocean waves slap against the sand seemingly right outside of the floor to ceiling windows! We saw whales breaching and sea turtles frolicking in the sand right from the lanai! You must stay here, in unit 315, at least once in your lifetime - you will not regret it! Mahalo!

Unhygienic, no cleaning

Extremely disappointing given that we had stayed here previously where everything went smoothly. We were traveling with two little ones, while working remotely during our ten day trip. Naturally we wanted the place to be clean, and it's not unreasonable to expect a couple of cleanings for a ten day stay? Especially when that's the normal policy. Well, we managed to schedule one cleaning and that went fine. We requested a second cleaning, and had it scheduled, but the place didn't get cleaned. What's more, when we complained, the person at the desk told us they don't do any cleanings, no apology.. As far as I see, there's no state mandated restriction on cleaning- this was communicated to my husband by the staff of a different residence managed by the same company. Mixed messages all around from the people at the front desk, some staff members informed me that occasional cleanings are done, just not on a daily basis. Others said they didn't do any cleaning at all. I don't blame the staff for this, I blame management's lack of a clearly communicated policy. However, a couple of the staff members we spoke to were very rude. Not cool at all! Finally, lest I forget, I found someone's lingerie in our bed, wedged between the mattress and the headboard while I fished around behind the pillows to find a pacifier my baby had dropped. Ew. Given their very lax policy on cleaning, I'm not one bit surprised. Doesn't inspire much faith in their 'extra' COVID precautions at all.

The Manager Dennis and his committed staff provided us a clean and friendly environment throughout our stay. The Service Team is amazing and accomplishes Service Excellence. The location is close to many excellent local beaches that provide adequate parking, showers and washroom facilities.
The resort is kept immaculate and the gardeners continue to beautiful the established tropical vegetation. The view and vistas from the room or the pool & courtyard are breathtaking. We enjoyed playing tennis and shuffleboard and the seating in the pool and surrounding the pool is generous and offers both shade and sun. The units are large, very clean and suitably themed Hawaiian. Bedding including the pullout couch was comfortable and provided a good night sleep.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit this part of Maui. We hope to return soon!!!! It will be our 4 visit in 5 years.

It is hard to know where to begin. The facilities, the beauty, the service- all was just phenomenal! My family of four had ample space in a great accommodations that was as pleasant as pleasant can be. The pool is lovely (and heated) and the jacuzzi was nice and warm. The staff was great and very friendly. In addition, the resort provided bogey boards, umbrellas, and beach chairs for us to use as a bonus. Our view from unit three was breath taking- especially at sunset. Just unbelievably beautiful. I cannot recommend this place enough! Mahalo Nui Loa for all you do MAUI HILL!!

Being up on Maui hill made for a nice view of the palm trees and the ocean. We were a short walk from the beach. This area has long expanses of beach and a great beach walking path. Our 2 bedroom was huge, pool perfect temp and large and the landscape kept up meticulously. We loved our stay.
We were three couples in three rooms with Garden View. One couple's room was very shabby, ours was okay and the third was good. The couple with the shabby room upgraded to Ocean View for only $40 / night (~$200 instead of $160). If you are not trying to save money, it is a great deal. The room and views of their new unit were much much better. However, this is a condo unit and each place is independent of any other. The management staff were very nice and took care of some minor problems but had no control over the state of the rooms. We don't know if the other ocean view rooms are as nice as the one our friends got. But overall, good value for money.
So not worth the money, Unit 412

I have been to Maui 15+ times and this is by far the worst place i have ever stayed. The only thing nice i can say is that it waa clean. The bed in the room was awful aa waa the sofa bed. The door to the bedeoom waa a sliding door and it didnt shut tight and waa banging against the wall all night long. I got a parking permit from the front desk which is run by Castle Resorts and they were beyond rude. Luckily our stay was only 2 nigjts, I couldn’t have handled not getting any sleep for more than that!
Beware Damages Scam

We had a pleasant 3 night stay in January and enjoyed our beachfront view. No issues while we were there. Unit was a bit worn in terms of maintenance but nothing that impacted our stay. We had some ants one day, but otherwise generally clean. Would have rated as 4 stars, except for experience after our stay. I had declined the "damage waiver fee" when we booked. It was my wife, myself, and our adult son. I thought likelihood of any damage from our 3 night stay was low and we had no incidents while we were there. When I reviewed my credit card statement I saw we were subsequently charged $68 dollars after our stay. We were never notified or advised of any damage, our card was just charged. When I called, the front desk person told me it was for damage to a coffee table. When I said we we had no incidents or noticed anything, I was advised the manager would call me back. No response. I called a second time and spoke with front desk person, again advised manager would follow up and no response. The apartment has a lot of deferred maintenance, again nothing that impacted our stay, but seems like this is a scam if you don't pay for the optional damage waiver you are going to pay for whatever random "damage" they will attribute to you. Either don't stay here or just bite the bullet and pay their "damage waiver fee" upfront.

Paki Maui is nicely located. We stayed in #102. Owner offered on VRBO. Great view! Easy access from parking lot. Easy walk to pool and ocean. Well stocked, close to everything. I would stay again! Had a great time!
We stayed there thing it would be a nice place . Our room was nice enough bu the pool and surrounding area were so hot, you could not walk on stones surrounding the pool . Forget about going in the pool it was like a hot bath . I felt like we were a Floating Petri dish . We went in for less than 1 minute . Not sure what you can do to cool down maybe some umbrellas ??

We enjoyed this property. We have stayed at other Ashton's and we're impressed by the grounds of this one as well. This one does not have the office on property so influenced the score a bit. The condo itself was nice but a little more dated then others I have stayed at. The bathtub/ shower has a huge step in and out with no grab bars. There is no cleaning service included in the stay without an additional cleaning fee. Towels are in abundance and cheerfully delivered. The dishwasher had something awful in the bottom that we reported. The Lanai was beautiful and beds clean and comfortable. It seemed like this unit hadn't been used for awhile as the plants and end tables were dusty and there were a few bugs (this is the tropics). The beds were comfortable. Over all the stay was great and I would stay at an Ashton again. All three of us enjoyed our stay here. We especially enjoyed our evening visits to the pool and hot tub. Very convenient location. Quiet property which suited our needs. Grills scattered throughout property for use. Gated community with a code for entry. A different code for pool and fitness center. I would stay again.

I booked this trip through Costco, so I expected a nice resort. What I got instead was a completely outdated run down resort. The first night I turned on the lights on the restroom only to find cockroaches crawling around. I wasn't able to use the bathtub because the paint was peeling off. I found other people's trash inside the kitchen cabinet. There was old fake floral arrangements that were placed throughout the room, that were very dusty and dirty. The patio outside was dirty and dusty, with bird poop all over the patio furniture. On top of what you pay to stay there, the day you check in they charge you $150 cleaning fee along with 10% gratuity added on each day, and yet no one came to clean the entire time we were there. I ended up leaving early and booking a room at the Hilton across the street. Payed more than expected on this trip, never again will I stay at this resort, big mistake on my part for not doing my research and trusting Costco.
Second visit here in 2 years, best place to stay for a family in waikiki
LA-to-Hawaii
(Irvine, Pennsylvania)
We stayed at this hotel recently during our 1 week vacation in Oahu. This was our second stay and the experience was even better
1. the location is great - beach is right across the street and the entrance to the hotel is tucked away in a side street -- the area is not the busiest or noisiest part of waikiki
2. the hotel is not as intimidating as some of other larger resorts - it truly feels like a home away from home. front desk staff are very courteous and helpful, valet crew is A+ and housekeeping is top notch. I have spent more $$ on fancy hotels in LA and San Diego and came away disappointed compared to what I saw here
3. the rooms are huge and only a few per floor - so it never feels super crowded at any point in time. The balconies are big, kitchen and bathrooms are nicely upgraded and everything works as it should
4. If you are looking for a 2BR type accommodation, do check them out before signing up for any of the other larger resorts. It is great value for the $$

This property is located mid-beach in Waikiki and has terrific views of the ocean from well appointed and spacious rooms. Ours was a 2 bedroom/2 bath with a sleeper sofa. It fit our group of 6 (2 adults and 4 teens/20's) well since we could escape to the beautiful big balcony if needed. Having a full kitchen made it easy to be COVID conscious and eat meals in. There are many tasty and authentic take-out/delivery options nearby as well. The staff are super friendly and relaxed. The parking is free and though you currently have to reserve time at the pool and BBQ, it is well managed and the areas are thoroughly cleaned regularly. We really enjoyed our time there and hope to return on a future trip to Oahu.

We had a great stay at the Aston. The room was very nice and very clean. The staff was very accommodating. We had a two-bedroom unit looking directly at Waikiki beach. Absolutely beautiful view. Valet parking was included and was very quick to retrieve our rental car.
We were a party of four and had to do the coronavirus testing within 72 hours of our flight departing to Honolulu. We used the Costco/AZOVA mail-in test. We delivered our test to UPS early on Thursday afternoon and had results by 8:00 am Saturday morning. (Flight left at 6:00 pm on Saturday.)
We have been to Waikiki at least eight times before and could not believe how few tourist there were. Absolutely empty. (Probably 5-10% occupancy.) If you are even thinking of going to Hawaii, I would encourage you to go. They really need your tourist dollars.
Best Stay In Waikiki

I have stayed at other places in waikiki, but this was my absolute favorite! The Aston Waikiki Beach Tower is in perfect proximity to everything that Waikiki has to offer. Waikiki Beach is a 5 minute walk (if that),and Kalakaua Ave (the main strip of Waikiki) is a 2 minute walk away (if that). The Aston Waikiki Beach Tower itself is in great condition. I did not notice any structural defects nor did I have any problems using any of the facilities. There were social distancing protocols in place. The protocols were not intrusive and quite easy to follow.
I stayed in room 2101 for 6 nights with my family. This was a two bedroom oceanfront suite. The suite totally satisfied all of our needs. The suite was immaculate, and everything was in perfect working order (despite there being written instructions, I couldn't figure out how to use the convection oven). The suite size was perfect for our family of 6. The suite and floor 21 was quiet, it never felt cramped, or as if we were intruding on each others personal space. The view of Waikiki Beach and the ocean was amazing!
The front desk staff and management were awesome. Very friendly, accommodating and helpful. I had a minor issue with one of the valet attendants. I mentioned the issue to the manager. The manager genuinely listened and apologized profusely. I was so surprised and pleased by the manager's attention to my issue, it literally warmed my heart.
If I had to stretch my mind to complain about something, it would be the entrance from the parking garage. I was told, by the valet, that self parking was on the 3rd and 4th floor. If you park on the 4th floor, you have to walk down to the 3rd floor to enter the building. (My room key would not open the 4th floor entrance)
Overall, I loved the Aston Waikiki Beach Tower. I highly recommend staying here. This will definitely be my go to place to stay whenever visit Honolulu.
We booked the wrong hotel, thought we booked the Aston beach hotel. This hotel is out dated. Amenities fee was unnecessary. We were couple but got a room with 2 full beds, beds were small and uncomfortable. Hard to see the hotel at night because no light outside. We got partial ocean view room on the 9th floor. the view was awesome. I guess what you pay for is location.

Cannot beat the location! Be sure to book the deluxe or oceanfront! Rooms are very efficient and remind me of a cruise ship. Good soaps, sheets, and complimentary beach towels. This is a great hotel for travelers who are going to be out and about. No pools, no frills just a nice place sleep and relax on the Balcony for sunsets. Beds are not queen sized.

My husband and I stayed here for the winter last year, and really enjoyed the location, our view of Diamond Head, having two bedrooms, a kitchen and parking. We liked it so much we booked our return trip before we left to head home for the summer. We were aware some plumbing and air conditioning work was to begin in the spring, and last throughout the summer. The hotel/condo association decided not to do the work during covid, despite the hotel being shut down, and very few residents in the building. 10 days into our 6 month stay, November 10th, we get notice that there was a “catastrophic plumbing failure” and we would not have use of our kitchen sink. One week later and 2 additional days of no water at all (which also means no AC) we were informed that it wouldn’t be fixed until mid-January. We did place a call with the condo manager, Craig, to try to understand what was happening, and he was very rude and dismissive of our circumstances, and not willing to work with us to perhaps move to another condo in the building, etc. Note that this is only at one end of the building. BUT the whole building will need to be repaired at some point.
Best to wait a few years for all the repairs to be completed and come back, otherwise you’ll have to put up with constant disruption due to repairs.
Great location ..... just disappointed

This is actually our second time staying at the Aston Waikki Sunset. The first time was great and the location is awesome so we thought we would book here again. We found the staff at the front desk to not be very friendly from the minute we checked in. We asked about the hospitality shuttle that the hotel provides and the staff member just acted like he knew nothing about it. There was another guest who overheard our conversation and she mentioned that she had been there for a few days and had been paying for cabs because no one told her about the shuttle service. Clients should be made aware of the services that they are paying for in the resort fee. Housekeeping was also not up to standard. The hotel as a whole needs a facelift starting with the Lobby. I definitely would not be staying at the Aston Sunset again nor would I recommend it. It's sad because the location is perfect.
WARNING :BLACK STUFF COMING OUT OF AC.
Odyssey617496
Black particles over everything floor, rugs, walls, drapes, toilet seat, walls. Would not recommend at all for the elderly or young children. Or a service animals.Building is aware of this situation slowly switching out air conditioners over the next years. Read other reviews. This is more a public service than anything else. The rugs in the halls are filthy. I WOULDNT The men this property or to people with children elderly. Definitely nobody with respiratory issues at all. Location is great. Front desk staff is great! Building management terrible they should be ashamed to expose the public to this!
Great condo in a great location

We stayed here in January 2020. Our room was on the 19th floor with Diamond Head and ocean views. We picked this condo because of the kitchenette and its price. I loved having the ability to cook our meals in the condo, BBQ, or walk to a restaurant. I also like the fact that each floor had its own coin operated laundry. It is convenient that we can don't have to pack lots for our 10 day holiday. Our room was located right beside the elevators however there was no excess noise from them. I was pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff were cheerful and helpful when we had questions. A special shout out to Sandi, she loves her job and you can tell .
First of all...this is not a resort nor hotel. Huge disappointment. Our 3 bedroom 802 villa was fithy...Gross and disgusting. The kitchen sink has some kind of gross mold growing around the edges. So out dated, the coffe maker was straight out of the 80s. The glass dining room table had finger prints covering it, like it wasn't even cleaned for our arrival. The out door furniture was so old and weather you couldnt sit in the chairs without getting a splinter. All the baseboards have a thick layer of dust. Windows, glass doors dirty. Our upstairs shower was leaking down a vent into the half bath downstairs. The beds in each room were the most uncomfortable and wrapped in some kind a plastic coving the matress. The grounds are beautiful, but of course it's Hawaii. I can't understand after staying here why it's a 4 star..
Not impressed

I’m not 100% sure the staff assigned us to the correct
Room. There was a baby crib in the room when we checked in . The next day the staff called to see if they could go in the room to get it to which I said use, They them called three more times and emailed twice! This isn’t how I wanted to spend my first day of vacation.
They were not very generous with supplies either- I think there was one extra roll of toilet paper and one extra
garbage bag. The sofa bed was old and in pretty bad condition. We ended up purchasing an air mattress because there was no way anyone was going to get any sleep on that thing. And i was really unimpressed when we got locked a few days before we were due to check out. .The door code had got changed without notifying us. I wondered what would have happened if we had come back to the unit after office hours?
Not impressed anyway- wouldn’t recommend.

Property was beautiful as was the 3 bedroom villa we stayed in.....couldn't have asked for a better location. Home was well appointed and we did not lack for anything! Centrally located for all of our activities and with a pool and restaurant on property you really didn't need to leave if you didn't want too.
Poorly Managed

These are lovely Villa style units which have fallen upon disrepair. We stayed in Unit 801 which has a great floor plan and nicely furnished. The unit though is showing signs of aging which was apparent in broken blinds lading to the patio. The management company is doing a very poor job: on check in we were missing all sorts of items such as kitchen dish soap, no sponge, a single trah bag, no soap for the dishwasher, a single partial roll of toilet paper in the bathroom among other issues. The blender smelled as if something died inside of it. On the positive side, the sleep experience was good, quiet with good bedding. The fairway views are quite lovely and the grounds are well maintained. These units have great potential but are suffering as the result of management which seems a bit indifferent.
Ok for the price, but they should really consider upgrading their rooms. To me, it looked like a really old casino hotel. I also had to move rooms because the shower head didn’t work properly and it flooded the bathroom
Fine for a person like me that travels on Business

For repeat customers traveling to Honolulu, this is a great location. Easy to get in and out. I would say not for a 1st time vacation traveler to Hawaii. Most want a "Resort" type hotel for first trip.
Overpriced

It is a hotel that you can find in a roadway in the middle of mainland.
Absolutely overpriced, old furniture, old elevatpr, expansive parking, small TV, walls cracked, the bathroom is disgusting. Keep in your mind you probably paying more than 100USD here and not 40 bocks.
If it costs 40 or 50 USD maybe it could be an option for someone.
It is a rip off the 17USD named resort tax.
Never but never more stay here again. Pay 50 USD and stay in a clean hotel but never here
I don't know what you mean for this line

Always very happy to be at the Ewa. It's like home. I missed the nice picture that was hanging on the wall when I first walked into the lobby. Also, you used to have little paper glasses with the water for a quick refreshing drink.
Solid pick at a reasonable price

For its location and price, the Ewa Hotel is a solid choice in the Waikiki area. Sure, the physical condition of the rooms and hallways are not the newest or cleanest. But we got a room for three people that included three single beds, a TV, a two-burner stove, fridge, and microwave at a reasonable rate. Breakfast is not included, but the in-room wi-fi is stable and relatively fast.
If you need a parking space (extra charge), be sure to check-in as early as you can, because there's a limited number of spaces available.
The biggest annoyances were the added fees that are not included in the advertised room rate. That practice is so common among hotels now that it's confusing and almost impossible to compare total price, which is, unfortunately, exactly what hotels want to do.
I visited this hotel in 2012. I came back to this hotel again during the pademic. Really enjoyed my stay. Hotel staff is very friendly as usual. Check in is smooth. They want to review your covid 19 testing result from the state of Hawaii website. The hotel is very quiet. There are guests staying but I don't feel it is crowded, which is a good thing. They have hand sanitizer at the lobby near elevator. They also advise to only ride the elevator for 2 persons at a time. House keeping service is stopped. If you need to get a new towel, you have to book an appointment, which is totally fine with me. The room is equipped with full kitchen set. There is an entrance at the back of the hotel where you can access the Hilton Waikiki village and walk on the beach. The best part is the public parking behind the hotel is currently free, which saved me quite a bit money. Mcdonald is across the street and Ala Moana shopping center is a short distance. The hotel is maintained very well. I only was there for 5 nights. I observed crew cleaning the ground floor etc. Overall, a very good place to stay while visiting Oahu.

We used Waikiki Beach Rentals to book a suite at the Ilikai to attend my nephews wedding in May 2020. Then COVID19 landed and even if we wanted to go to Hawaii, all flights from Canada to the US were grounded. When we contacted Waikiki Beach Rentals we were told there would be no refund of our $400 USD deposit ($700 Cdn), but we would receive a credit. The wedding date was pushed back twice, and with no end in sight for COVID19, they have decided on a Canadian wedding. We advised Waikiki Beach Rentals, and expressed our frustration given the world pandemic situation, and they advised us the owners have incurred many costs and fees for our reservation (we hadn't spent one minute in the suite) and were also told no refund, and we'd only receive a credit for 12 months from the original booking, therefore we'd have to use this credit by May 2021, which is most certain unlikely given the ongoing presence of COVID19.
BEWARE ..... DO NOT use Waikiki Beach Rentals to book any accommodation in Hawaii. They are so unreasonable, and represent owners that are also unreasonable. All other venues associated with this trip offered partial or full refunds, except Waikiki Beach Rentals and the Ilikai condo owners.

We stayed here for 8 days in October 2019 via a HomeAway (now VRBO) rental. The grounds were nice and lobby area was clean. We didn't have to check-in at the front desk, so we just went up to our room and used the lock pad provided. The view from our room on the 16th floor was nothing below stunning. We could see the ocean and lagoon. We also felt we had front row seats to the fireworks display put on by the Hilton Hawaiian. We didn't get a chance to use the facilities offered by the Ilikai, but we wouldn't mind staying here again in future.
Nightmare management. Old smelly building
HatesIlikai123
Terrible experience so far. The hotel is super old and run down in parts from being built in the 60’s. There is an odd smell in the hallways, and a toxic chemical smell in the stairwells. You also have to deal with jerks and hot-heads like Rob for management. I suffer from PTSD and travel with my service dog for the last 10 years. I have all the proper paperwork, and I submitted it to the state of Hawaii and everything before my arrival. An old man complained about my dog, and I got a call from management (Rob), who yelled at me saying my service dog is not allowed in the building unless I am blind or he opens doors for me. This is quite the claim! We have literally seen 3 other dogs here, one of which being a 5 pound little fluffy white dog. It definitey doesn’t open doors! For him to decide which level of service he think qualifies is unethical, and against the law. Rob also told me he had his attorneys looking into the situation as if to scare me.
Rob came pounding on my door and asked for my driver’s license to “put me in the system”. 15 minutes later the cops came to my room! One of the most bizarre, frustrating, angering situations I have been apart of in a hotel.
We are paying $3200/month to be here! Do yourself a favor and find a different location where you don’t have to deal with nasty people like Rob

We were booked to stay at Ilikai Hotel and luxury suites in early May but then coronavirus hit. Suddenly international travel was stopped and we could no longer travel from Australia to Hawaii. We were able to get refunds for our cruise, tours, and flights but sadly Ilikai Resort has repeatedly refused to refund our substantial full payment for 2 rooms, only offering a credit for future use, even though experts are saying that international travel won’t be likely until 2024. Of course my credits will have expired by then.
Lesson learned - never pay up front for accommodation. You got me this time Ilikai, but you won’t get me again.

We appreciate the preventative measures implemented by Luana Waikiki Hotel & Suites. The room was clean and provided 75% ethanol wipes. The remote control was covered in plastic, and only one person in the elevator at a time, unless in the same household. The noon checkout was a boon. We had a wonderful stay.

Stayed here while waiting for a house after doing a PCS military move to Hawaii. Pros: great location in Waikiki, you can walk to the beach. Also a pretty good view from high up. The PS3 in the room and the assortment of free games and movies was awesome for my wife. Cons: tiny bathroom. I’m 6’4” and the shower was at my chest. Also you can’t open the door if someone is sitting on the toilet. Also the refrigerator is small and the freezer section wouldn’t get cold, so if you’re not wanting to eat out a lot I wouldn’t recommend getting anything frozen. Overall it was a pretty decent value.

We spent 3 days in Waikiki just after they lifted the inter-island quarantine and the Luana Waikiki was AMAZING. From the moment we arrived to the time we checked out, the staff was super healpful and freindly. The location is the best with only a short walk across the park to the beach. Easy walking distance to great shopping and eats at Ala Moana Mall. Ten - twenty minute stroll to great dinner spots and other beaches.
Our Partial Ocean View room was clean and spacious with a wide open view of the park and ocean (not just a sliver of blue between buildings). That's one of the best things about the Luana's location-being on the edge of the park means there are no other high rises right next door blocking your view or looking right into your room. We could tell our room had been recently updated, but it still maintianed that traditional Hawaiian charm. There was a fridge for our snacks and leftovers and an abundance of storage and countertop space.
We spent most of our time at the beach, but the POOL sure looked inviting.
Can't say enough about how much we loved our stay at Luana. A big shout out to all the staff-especially Kanani- for making our stay soooo enjoyable.

I am absolutely appalled at the “customer service” we received at this hotel, I would never stay here again or recommend this place to anybody. If I could give zero stars I would. I have traveled extensively throughout my lifetime and have NEVER experienced such horrible customer service. The front desk receptionist was extremely rude from the first time we called for help and was not able to answer our questions, so we called again and she was still rude and offered no helpful answers to our questions. She then CALLED US back with a horrible attitude, stating that if we kept calling the front desk they would not be giving us any information (they never gave us helpful information to begin with during the first two phone calls we made) and then hung up on us, not even giving us a chance to speak. I have never been treated so horribly as a paying customer. We are leaving and going to stay somewhere else.
Nightmare hotel with lousy rooms and blaring construction
ufathom
(Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
The place is a dated hotel, poorly managed and disorganized messaging around COVID rules.
The first unit we stayed in had heavy construction and piping work going on because of a roof leak. After the first night, they said that construction was only going to be for one night. Day 2-3 it was still happening and I was told there was nothing they could do about the noise.
I had to argue with font end staff to get moved to another room that wasn’t a downgraded unit. They eventually found another room with IKEA-quality furnishing, and a dishwasher would flood water after every load.
The very next morning in the new unit, the construction moved to directly above this changed room at 7:45am.
After a couple more days of enduring the noise, they finally moved us to a room in a different building after speaking with the manager. The manager was a really nice guy and wish the other people at the resort were as helpful. Unfortunately, the new unit had an amateur trombone player that decided to practice his scales daily throughout the rest of the stay.
The final straw for this 1-star rating was the exceedingly rude front desk woman during the evening shift. At initial checkin we were told that we could workout after hours and security would just let us in. It sounded great to workout after 10:00 PM and not have a bunch of potential COVID-carriers breathing on us during the pandemic.
Unfortunately, the night lady took it upon herself to lay down the law and say that after hours was not an option for us to work out. This obviously was because of the “rule book,” which she was kind enough to wave in our faces after making an exception on one of the nights. She said the new security guard wasn’t “comfortable” with “breaking the rules” and presumably he had something better to do. The resort is hardly in the middle of a seedy neighborhood. Who knows, maybe he had to police geckos or eating doughnuts. A big reason we picked this resort was because of the gym, so it’s super lame not to have access.
Definitely look at the other Maui options, this place wasn’t a great overall experience.

We were upgraded when we arrived and had a partial ocean view. Some things were not open because of Covid. This property is very clean and well maintained. The staff is very nice. The balconies area all connect so it wasn't private. The beach is beautiful here and its close to everything Kaanapali has to offer.

The appartments offer a lot of space; balconys are prettu private. 2 levels building space out throughout the property. a couple nice pools, and right on a beach with few people around. Yet walking distance or short drive to blackrock for cliff jumping and snorkling, and whalers village for restaurants and shopping. We stayed a couple nights at the beginning of our trip and decided to come back at the end of our trip.

This is a wonderful property and we have loved our time here! The location is perfect. The beach is really nice. We love to be able to walk to dinner or cook in our studio. The staff is friendly and responsive. Really the only downside is that unfortunately there has been a guy smoking cigars everyday, which gets into our condo and is impossible to clear out. Despite talking to this person ourselves and security speaking with him several times, it's still an issue. It is disappointing this property is not more assertive about the policy. To have a designated smoking area period is ridiculous in 2020, time for that to go!
Friendly and attentive staff at the front desk. Older hotel so I didn't expect it to be perfect. Rooms are spacious but old. The window air conditioner is very noisy and disruptive when you sleep. The pillows on the bed were all old, flat and very smelly. I used a towel to cover the pillow I used. The bathroom is clean but old and could use a refresher. We needed to stay overnight near the medical facility for my daughter so we thought this would be a affordable choice. It was. I probably would opt to stay at a nearby hotel and pay more for the restful sleep and no stinky pillows.
There are some really great restaurants across the street Soribol and Yogurstory.

First this hotel is NOT what the site pics show! Room wasn’t how it was presented and we were deceived! RESPRT FEE FOR WHAT???? Charging $200 plus when all “resort accommodations” are closed!!! Parking inconvenient and cost even more which should be covered by “resort” fee! Manager less than helpful told us we could to stay someplace else?? Worst experience in my years of travel ever!!! Rooms outdated and beds like laying on plywood but were made to believe them switching to the king we reserved to begin with was them accommodating!!!!

STAY AWAY!
On Saturday, December 12, I made a reservation for my fiancé as he was traveling last minute from a neighbor island to get our dog surgery at a vet hospital there. I booked the reservation online. It was paid in full. All fees covered as stated in the confirmation receipt email.
After making the reservation,I called the hotel to request a King size bed for him because he is tall. Guest service agent RON answered the call. First he said he didn't see the reservation yet which was fine because I just made it and he said it takes about 30 minutes to come through. While I was asking about the request, he tried to hang up on me, I asked if when I called back I could request a king bed and he sounded very frustrated and in a huffy voice said "why didn't you choose it online?" I told him there wasn't an option to, and he said "well I don't know where you made your reservation then" which made me so confused because I know I made it for the pagoda hotel, and then he went further is a sassy tone that "having a king bed was an upgrade, whatever room we give him is what he gets". I have worked as a front desk agent before and the way he talked to me was extremely rude and unwarranted. It was just a request. If it was more for an upgrade there is a polite way to inform a patron of your establishment. Going on...
When my fiancé finally got to the hotel at around 9pm, after checking our dog in for surgery at the vet hospital, he called me and asked if I paid for the room already because the front desk agent RON said he needed to pay more. I was on speaker phone, and I said I paid in full I have the receipt stating all charges including resort fees are paid, and that a credit card should only be for incidentals like if you take anything from the mini bar. I said I called earlier and tried to request you a king bed but the front desk agent was very rude and I wasn't able to. My fiancé said RON was shaking his head in a NO fashion while I was speaking. Then RON proceeded to say the credit card was needed to pay all the resort fees and hotel fees. (which I have already paid for as was clear on my receipt!) He was lying about me not calling earlier, very rude, and tried to double charge us more for fees I already paid! Why did he not ask for the receipt to be emailed to them? Or shown for his reference? This is just unprofessional.
As a result of this horrible experience at the front desk with RON, my fiancé was so put off and frustrated, he went back to the vet hospital and slept on the front steps in the cold air exposed and in danger. It was late, and all he wanted to do was sleep in a safe room. But we had already used our hotel money and paid for a room that the front desk agent wasn't letting us check into unless we double paid for resort fees!
This experience at The Pagoda put my fiancé in danger and I will never stay here again. My family has been staying at the Pagoda our entire lives and we were always treated with warmth, civility, and professionalism. We are Kamaaina, and I am heart broken that my fiancé was treated with such poor attitude by an ill mannered misinformed front desk agent.
I emailed management about this and have had no response and it has been over 2 weeks. And they still charged us for the room. BEWARE!
MY ADVICE. Stay away! The location is NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Stay somewhere better with more professional experience service agents.

Great customer service. Very nice to be able to walk to Ala Moana beach without having to drive and deal with parking. Also convenient to an excellent variety of restaurants and bars. And, cannot say enough about the cleanliness of the place.

This 2 nights stay was for staycation. Was having renovation at home so i went and get a room. I was able to sleep longer and i was very comfortable. Would love to come back again soon. Love the free coffee and tea in the room.
We stayed at Fountain's Resort in early march before the Covid-19 nightmare. The staff were kind an courteous and the place was well kept. 3 adults and 3 kids in a 3 bedroom townhouse.
Cons:
-The sofa in our unit looked like a kid was left alone with a knife, cant really blame that on the resort but it wasn't great to come into a damaged couch.
-The prices for activities were actually more expensive at the resort than at the attraction itself.
-There is no real playground for kids
Pros:
Amazing and responsive staff
Updated dishwasher, washer, dryer, fridge and stove
very close to retail and food
great for walks and photo ops
Kids loved the pools
Summary: I would definitely go back, maybe request a house that is stationed around the waterfall. Good price for a family on a budget.
House was clean and bright.

Recent stay at Fountains was enjoyable. Check In was easy. Good location, nice property with a heated pool and hot tub. $21.57 a day for a resort fee is very steep considering the pool area is all they offer on site.
Large 4 bedroom townhouse was very nice. Cleanliness of dining and living room carpets were the biggest negative for us. No way it was vacuumed prior to our arrival. Leftover food and long blonde hairs all over the carpets. Exterior of stainless steel appliances should have been cleaned. Bathrooms and bedrooms were all cleaned satisfactory. My wife vacuumed the dining and living room carpets. We could not find the remote for the provided DVD player. We requested a replacement at the front desk, but one was never delivered. Outside of the initial dirtiness of the carpets, our stay was very enjoyable. We would probably return next year

We made plans to go to Orlando for a golf getaway. Great location within minutes to champions gate. Easy to make plans and head down from Connecticut. We arrived early to see where we were staying. Front desk clerk had our cell phone and would call us when room ready. A 4 PM check-in turned out to be 8:30 PM due to a very dirty condo left by previous renters. The kitchen floor and entry way were filthy along with the carpet to the upstairs. The handle was torn off a kitchen cabinet door. There was a nail tak in the bedroom closet sticking out. There were only six towels for 4 adults for 4 nights. There were no plastic trash bags to put your garbage out. We still enjoyed our stay. This unit could use some attention in the near future.
Awful townhome

I rented this townhouse because my daughters cheer team picked this location. I arrived at 1:30am for check in, super quick check in. I get to my unit, immediately 2 roaches walking on the kitchen floor, the rugs are beyond dirty and stained, the patio slider is missing about 10 blinds, upstairs one of the bedrooms smells like corn chips, stains all over the carpets and walls, floors are all slippery with my sneakers on mind you, hallway and bathroom lights do not work at all, I had to use the flash light on my phone to go to the bathroom. Absolutely not worth the money they charge, I’ve seen better at local hotels. Not sure why they charge such a big cleaning fee, they definitely are not cleaning well at all. Highly disappointed and will be seeking a refund in the morning when they open.
Not as it looks on the pictures. The unit we got was old and lots of things that didn’t work. The a/c, the unit phone, insects in the kitchen. Overall dusty. The manager did come to make sure they fixed the a/c,which they did.
Was not clean!

The hotel is close to the parks which was great, we also enjoyed having a kitchen but the knives provided were all rusted, plates and cups were dirty. The bathrooms were not cleaned at all and had mold. They also had a foul odor coming from the drain. The blankets and pillows also smelled bad. Had our room been properly cleaned and kitchen had proper utensils, I would have given it 5 stars
Disgusting horrible place that charges your visa hundreds of dollars for services not done

be very suspicious...they take a visa deposit and then charge you , in my case, around $700 for cleaning...they never entered our condo once.We washed the sheets, the towels. Liars and cheats.
Go elsewhere.
Awesome condo

The condo was the best. So big and spacious. Beds were so comfortable. Kitchen was squeaky clean. And the best thing is you do not have to go into a hotel lobby to get in and out. So great during this weird pandemic.
Lots of barking dogs

I have stayed here three times over the last four years. This was the worst experience there ever. Dog's on a patio below us are locked out there and left to cry most of the evening. Rooms are nice very accommodating but the noise from the people above as well as the dogs made it a very disappointing stay.
The place definitely needs some upkeep there's a lot of people that own or rent in here which makes for a lot of issues
